Hey I'm sort of new to GW and many guilds have teamspeak. I know it is not free, but what about the other types of voice chat?

Like Ventrilo... is that free?
Does anybody know some program that has free group chat?

Teamspeak is just as free as Ventrilo, if you have a server to run it on.

That's where the costs of most of these programs come from, hosting.

I can't stand voice chat for mmorpg's...last thing I want to do is hear some 12 year old shouting orders at me.

Your kinda right. Having a person who is younger than you and is the guild leader kinda lowers my self-esteem.

So ventrilo is free but to have a server cost $?

I'm not sure about TeamSpeak, but I know you can run a Ventrilo server for up to 100 clients for free, as long as its not being done for business reasons or in a business setting. I would assume TeamSpeak has the same sort of deal.

I use Skype with my friends. It's free and works pretty well.

Strange. For me, skill is more important than age. With skill I mean more than GW playing skills, also leader abilities and social skills,...

I really think it's kind of lame to have a lower self-esteem because someone who is younger than you is better than you.

The software is free (kind of) but you need a server (hardware) to run it on. You don't want to run a vent server on your isdn connection - you need more bandwidth - and that's where the money goes.

Another happy Skype user here (for friends only). It's free, you can do conference call of up to 5 people (host and 4 others), and it's nice and clear.
